ASTEROID DEFENSE · Privacy
Last updated 30 October 2026
The short version: Asteroid Defense is a free hobby game. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or trackers, and nothing is sold or shared. The game keeps only what it needs to run: your callsign, scores, and a random ID in your browser.
Who develops this game
Asteroid Defense (amaxcon.com) is developed by Matthew Moore. For any question about this notice or your data, email amaxconasteroiddefense@gmail.com.
What's stored in your browser
The game saves a few things in your browser's local storage, on your own device, so it remembers you between visits:
- your callsign (
asteroidDefensePilotName) -
a random pilot ID (
asteroidDefensePilotToken), so the game recognizes your browser when you reconnect: you keep your score in a round, and a reload isn't counted as a second pilot - the lobby you were last in (
asteroidDefenseLobby) - the ship you chose (
asteroidDefenseShip) - your solo high score (
asteroidDefenseHighScore) -
which all-time records are yours (
asteroidDefenseMyRecords), so the list can mark them "YOU"
You can remove all of this at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser's settings. The game itself sets no cookies.
What the game server keeps
Only when you play online:
- During a round: your callsign, text color, ship, position, score, kills and deaths, and your random pilot ID. Other pilots in your lobby see your callsign, text color, ship, position, score, kills and deaths (not your pilot ID).
- If you leave or your connection drops: your score is kept until the round ends, so you can rejoin and carry on. When a lobby empties, everything about its round is deleted within a few minutes.
- The all-time top 10: if your score makes the list, your callsign, text color, score, kills and the date are shown publicly on the site, for as long as the score stays in the top 10. With it the server keeps a private key based on your pilot ID (so each pilot has one entry per round); that key is never shown to anyone.
- Your IP address: used while you're connected to limit how many connections can come from one address (to prevent abuse). The game doesn't store it.
The game doesn't collect your email address, real name, location or any payment details.
Hosting: Cloudflare
The game is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address and the details of each request to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, and it may set a security cookie when it needs to check that a visitor isn't a bot. The game server's logs, which can include your IP address and approximate location, are kept by Cloudflare for a few days so problems can be fixed. Cloudflare runs a worldwide network, so your data may be handled outside your country. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Why this data is used
Only to run the game you've chosen to play, keep it fair, and protect it from abuse. For visitors in the EU and UK, the legal basis is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The browser storage above is strictly necessary for the game to work, which is why there's no consent banner.
Callsigns
Your callsign is shown to other pilots and, if you make the top 10, to everyone who visits. Please don't use your real name or anything that identifies you. Offensive callsigns are blocked, and a callsign can be removed from the top 10 if it breaks these rules.
Children
The game isn't aimed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has put personal information into a callsign (for example a real name in the top 10), email us and it will be removed.
Your choices and rights
- You can clear the game's browser storage at any time (see above).
- You can ask what data the game holds about you, or ask for it to be corrected or deleted (for example, a top-10 entry), by emailing amaxconasteroiddefense@gmail.com. Requests are answered within one month.
- In the EU and UK you have the right to access, correct and erase your data and to object to its use, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
- California residents: the game doesn't sell or share personal information.
Changes
If the game starts handling data differently, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
